FAQ’s
Q. What is Rake?
A. The rake is a commission fee taken out of each pot during a poker game by the Poker Room, it’s how the Poker Rooms cover operating costs and make a profit. The rake is usually a small percentage of a pot in cash games, or a set fee for tournaments. The calculation of rake is based on the size of the pot and the number of players playing at the table. At many Poker Rooms a “No Flop – No Drop” policy is used, which means that no rake is taken at all if the hand ends before the "flop".
Q. How is The Rake Calculated?
A. Your individual rake contribution is recorded along with the total amount of rake taken out from each pot and your individual Rake Back is based on these calculations.
There are two main ways that poker rooms use to calculate your individual rake contribution: “Shared” and “Contributed”.
In the “Shared” method, rake is divided evenly among all players that were dealt cards. For example if there are ten players and the rake is $1, each player would be assigned 1/10th of the rake $0.10. A player does not have to put money to the pot to get assigned rake, and it does not matter if you fold pre-flop.
In the “Contributed” method, players must contribute money to the pot to get assigned rake. The rake a player gets credited with is proportionate to the amount of his/her pot contribution. If you were to contribute $30 to a pot of $90 and the rake taken from that pot was $3, you would get credited with $1 rake
